If you follow me on instagram you may have noticed some photos recently showcasing a little project I collaborated on with Marriott Executive Apartments. I was brought in to host two events that would show the typically corporate hotel apartments as a cozy and homey space, particularly one that can be used for entertaining. It turned out to be such an interesting challenge as I was dealing with many aesthetic factors that were out of my control i.e the furniture, decoration, layout, etc.

Here is a little video highlighting both events that perfectly captures the mood of the evenings so well:

DXB x HYGGE:

The first event I hosted was a girls night in at the property in Al Jaddaf, Dubai. I’ve been pretty obsessed with hygge since my trips to Denmark and Sweden so I wanted to incorporate this feeling into the event. Fresh flowers galore and plenty of candlelight would be the best way to describe the details of DXB x HYGGE. The very talented Inna from Flower Symphony was able to capture my floral dreams perfectly. We used a mixture of ivy, greens, branches, and blush tones all over the apartment to create a subtle summery feeling. The food menu was casual and consisted of overflowing cheeseboards, bites, and canapés including beef tartare on grilled bread with crispy capers, cheese toasties with onion jam & crispy sage, mini spring pea risottos, baby gem lettuce salad with shaved apple & blood orange vinaigrette, and tomato bruschetta with stracciatella & fried zucchini blossoms. Not to forget the gorgeous display of desserts with salted caramel chocolate pots, warm chocolate chip skillets and vanilla bean custard beignets. Everything was beautifully presented on rustic wooden boards with lush garnishing of micro greens, herbs and edible flowers. Our bar tender created an eclectic variety of cocktails & mocktails that kept flowing all night. It was just one of those wonderful nights from the intelligent conversation, to the flower crown workshop taught by Inna, comfort food feasting, the mix of motown and jazz tunes on play with black & white movies screening on the television in the background. Coziness at its best.

mortar & pestle:

The second event was held in Abu Dhabi at the downtown property and in contrast to  the casual vibes of DXB x HYGGE showcased the space for a formal sit down dinner. The theme of the evening was mortar & pestle, a curated dinner inspired by the spices of the Middle East and North Africa. I decided to incorporate a slight arabesque touch as we are currently in the month of Ramadan. Working with Executive Chef Chris Dodds we created a sort of east meets west tasting menu where every dish highlighted a certain spice from the region. Dishes included: crispy quinoa with shanklish, watermelon, golden beets, pickled radish & pistachio, burrata with sumac, jarjeer oil, kalamata olive dust, & variations of tomato, halloumi crusted rack of lamb with fresh mint, za’atar, cumin roasted carrots & spiced date jus, and a classic cheesecake with strawberry & rosewater sorbet. I worked alongside Inna from Flower Symphony to create lush fruit filled floral arrangements as well as a beautiful centerpiece filled with pomegranates, figs, & grapes and adorned with ornate vintage brass candlesticks. It was a gorgeous evening with moody candlelight glow, endless banter on the table and of course the wonderful culinary experience.

Thank you to Carla – Memoirs of a Tastebud, Hossana – Neon Structure, Rupal – foodienfabulous, Sheetal – http://sheetalbhagnari.com, Dorothy – Dorothy on her Way, & Kristina – Miss K.SM for gracing us with their company that evening and to the entire Marriott Downtown Abu Dhabi team for executing the mortar & pestle theme so well.
